Selena Gomez Sharing About Her Bipolar Disorder

On Friday night, Miley Cyrus hosted the popular online Livestream “Bright Minded” and this time the singer invited a special guest – her Disney friend: Selena Gomez. Here, the voice of “Lose You To Love Me” suddenly shared she was suffering from bipolar disorder.

What is bipolar disorder?

This is a type of mental illness quite common among celebrities in particular and modern society in general. A person with bipolar disorder shows marked changes in mood, emotions, behavior, sometimes excited and happy but sometimes depressed, bored to the point of depression. This is a dangerous mental illness that has made so many stars miserable and pushed some to choose suicide.

What did Selena Gomez share about her diagnosis?

When asked about her advice is for people with mental health issues and where she would recommend them, Selena responded: “Recently, I went to one of the best mental hospitals…McLean Hospital and I discussed that, after years of going through a lot of different things, I realized that I was bipolar and so, when I go to know more information, it actually helps me. It doesn’t scare me once I know it and I think people get scared of that.”
After being properly diagnosed by the doctor, Selena shared that she herself felt “both terrified and relieved”. Selena Gomez was scared when she found out about her condition but relieved to finally understand why she suffered from depression and excessive anxiety over the years. “I have never been well aware of or found a transparent answer about my situation.”

During the Livestream, the Disney friends confided about people feeling more lonely and anxious during the pandemic. This is also a problem for bipolar disorder patients.

Apparently, Selena Gomez is not alone in this mental health battle. Another Disney star, Demi Lovato first talked about her bipolar diagnosis in 2011. Bebe Rexha also shared recently that she is bipolar.

Not her first time being sick…

Selena Gomez has gone through many tough periods in her life. She struggled a lot with depression after her breakups. In 2017, Selena Gomez suffered from autoimmune disease Lupus and underwent chemotherapy, which was why she needed a kidney transplant.
