Being an intelligent student won the Fulbright scholarship

Hans Dolph Lundgren was born on 3 November 1957 in a middle-class family in Stockholm, Sweden.

Despite constant allergies and a lot of chronic illnesses, he still tried wrestling. Dolph chose to learn the fighting art Kyokushin with stubborn exercises and achieved unprecedented success in the late 1970s.

In spite of his achievement in fighting, Dolph decided to follow his father and brother to study for an engineering degree after completing his military service. He won the Fulbright Scholarship from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, one of the world’s top professional schools.

Catching his dream

In Sydney, where Lundgren was studying and working as a nightclub security guard, he met Grace Jones, a woman who then dramatically changed the life vector of this Swedish man. The celebrity first hired him as a bodyguard, and then he and Grace became close. But even after moving to New York, Dolph was nothing but “Grace’s boyfriend”.

After being with Grace, Dolph became increasingly passionate about art. He began taking preparatory acting classes. The very first role of Lungren in the film industry was the movie James Bond: A View To A Kill in 1985.

However, it was his memorable performance in Rocky IV that helped him gain worldwide attention.

One of the most impressive scenes between Dolph Lundgren and Sylvester Stallone was when Sylvester wanted to have the most realistic movie scene. Therefore, Stallone asked his Dolph to punch him for real and it was the biggest mistake of his life.

With the strength of Dolph Lundgren, with only one punch, Sylvester Stallone had to go to the emergency room. He had coronary swelling and almost died from this scene. In response, Sylvester explained, “Dolph’s punch is just as powerful as being hit by a car”. He had to stay in intensive care for a week because of the accident.

Other activities of Dolph Lundgren then and now

During those years, Dolph constantly pursued martial arts. “Karate and other forms of sports always make me excited and extremely excited”. In 1997, Dolph won the karate black belt in Tokyo. He was also a famous fighter in Sweden, Europe, and Australia.

Besides, Dolph also works as a film director and owns a production company, Thor Pictures and Red Orm Productions. It has developed many projects where he produced, starred, and directed at the same time.
